Why NLLS Supports Environmental Causes

Updated: Jan 5, 2023

Climate change is one of the biggest threats facing our Earth and our children’s futures. As UNICEF states:

“Virtually every child on the planet is already affected by climate change. Natural disasters, environmental degradation, and biodiversity loss can devastate agriculture, cutting children off from nutritious foods and safe water. They can lead to dangerous environments and disease outbreaks and destroy the safe shelter, quality health care, and education systems children need to survive and thrive.”

Here in Northern California where NLLS is based, we've already experienced profound effects of climate change. In recent years, drought and related wildfires resulted in devastating losses for our communities and impacted children's sense of safety. The 2017 Tubbs Fire in Santa Rosa destroyed over 5,000 homes and killed 22 people. The 2018 Camp Fire killed 85 people and all but destroyed the town of Paradise.

Environmental stewardship is not to be taken lightly or carried out alone. That is why NLLS is committed to taking care of our Earth for today's children and future generations by volunteering with green organizations and donating to nonprofits with environmental missions. We subscribe to the 1% For the Planet philosophy: "Putting people and the planet over profit." To that end, NLLS donates 1% of its annual profits to environmental causes. When we all work together, 1% adds up.

This year, we are supporting California Trout and Trout Unlimited, two nonprofits dedicated to conserving freshwater streams, rivers, and upland habitats for trout, salmon, other aquatic species, and people. They also educate our communities about the critical role rivers and streams play in a healthy environment.

Additionally, we support Connolly Ranch in Napa, a discovery-based environmental education center for children of all ages. NLLS founder Kris Cosca serves on its Board of Directors.

NLLS is clear on our beliefs. We believe in public schools, diversity, equity, inclusion, and taking care of our Earth and environment. We show this by committing our precious resources to support these causes and encourage others to do the same.
